Applicants should be the first author of the publication, or the author of the thesis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"md:max-w-[768px] mt-2 md:pt-5\">The application should indicate which award you are applying for and include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8211; CV of the applicant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"md:max-w-[768px]\">&#8211; A short (maximum one page) outline of why this paper or thesis should win the Austrian Microbiome Research Award<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8211; A pdf of the publication or thesis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"md:max-w-[768px] mt-2 md:pt-5 has-contrast-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c753bbd62bd6c6c56cb5ea789a4e4542\"><strong>The winners of the inaugural Austrian Microbiome Research Awards 2025 have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microplanet.at\/index.php\/news\/austrian-microbiome-research-awards-2025-to-three-early-career-researchers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"md:max-w-[768px] mt-2 md:pt-5 has-contrast-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c86e30fa8171f4c9ee0f4c785b1333b2\" style=\"padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\"><strong>The next call will be opened in Spring 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary>A<strong>pplication FAQs<\/strong><\/summary>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\">Can I apply for multiple prizes?\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\"><em>Yes, you can apply for multiple prizes (e.g., best PhD thesis award and best paper award), however, it is unlikely that both prizes will be awarded to the same applicant<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\">Can I apply for a paper where I am co-first author with other individuals?\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\"><em>Yes<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\">Can I apply if I\u2019m not working at the University of Vienna, or if I\u2019m not affiliated with the Cluster of Excellence Microplanet?\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\"><em>Yes, these awards are for microbiome research from anywhere in Austria.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\">What if my paper has been accepted by the journal but is not yet available online?\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\"><em>We only accept applications for papers that are available online (however, no preprints), but we expect to put out a call for award applications every year, so try applying next year!<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\">Who selects the winners?\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\"><em>The selection committee will be made up of key researchers from the CoE Microplanet.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\">What do the winners receive?\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\"><em>Winners will be awarded their prize at the Annual Microbiome Day (details to be provided), and will be invited to present their research at the Annual Meeting of the Cluster of Excellence (October 19-21, 2025) with travel and accommodation costs within Europe covered.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\">What if I have moved to another continent to take up a position at the time of the Microbiome Day or Annual Meeting?\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--10)\"><em>Costs can be covered for travel within Europe only.
