The recent FWF Think Beyond Summit was dedicated to the nine Clusters of Excellence, Austria’s largest research networks, which were launched around 2,5 years ago.
The impressive results across diverse fields discussed at the summit, including energy conversion and storage, quantum science, bioengineering, the future of knowledge, brain research, Eurasian cultural heritage, microbiome science for planetary health, healthy aging, and artificial intelligence, reminded us that collaboration is what enables us to tackle the complex challenges of our time in the most effective way.
In the CoE Microplanet, we aim to understand how microbial communities impact planetary health by bridging environmental and medical microbiome research. Thus, collaboration for us means moving beyond established silos by sharing concepts, methods, data, and infrastructure, integrating perspectives from various fields, and ensuring that our discoveries are communicated to society and industry to spark the innovations of tomorrow.
A heartfelt thank you to Eva-Maria Holzleitner, Christof Gattringer, Ursula Jakubek, and the entire Austrian Science Fund team for a very inspiring evening and for your leadership in shaping the future of Austrian science.
